Our mentoring scheme

WIDA offers a mentoring scheme, targeting dance teachers or dancers of other dance styles who want to learn and teach Irish dance.

Teachers enrolled on the mentoring scheme will be partnered with an existing WIDA teacher or advanced dancer, depending on their needs.

Their mentor can help with the following (depending on the needs of the teacher):

  • Setting up new classes

  • Advising on risk assessments, insurance and police checks

  • Teaching the teacher - intensive delivery of Irish dance classes via in person workshops and remote check-ins, videos and video critiques, correction of technique

  • Choreography - either providing, co-choreographing or critiquing the teacher’s choreography to ensure the teacher has all the tools they need to launch a successful Irish dance class. This could include teaching workshops to teacher and class, particularly for more advanced choreography

  • Support on embarking on the teachers‘ exams process (TCRG & TMRF - or grades 1-11)

  • Answering questions on Feis and exam participation

  • Advisory support on hosting feiseanna and exams

  • Networking within the organisation

  • Support on sourcing shoes/costumes (particularly for more remote regions)

  • Help understanding the WIDA rules and affiliation requirements, code of conduct and organisation‘s policies

  • Sharing insight into Irish tradition, language and culture with other geographical regions
